Here is a simple recipe that your hands and feet will love, and I bet you have the ingredients to make it in your home right now! All it takes is sugar and oil. If you have some essential oils on hand, great, if not – no big deal; you can try them the next time.
Sugar scrubs are simple to make. You basically need your every day white sugar and some oil. In the recipe I am sharing, I used coconut oil, and it turned out great! You can also use safflower oil, avocado oil, or even olive oil – which is great for your skin (but will smell like olive oil).
Since this is so simple to whip up, I prefer making small amounts as needed. If you want to make more at once, go for it. You just need to start with equal amounts of sugar and oil.
- 1/4 c. White Sugar
- 1/4 c. Coconut Oil
- 5 Drops of Rosemary Essential Oil
- Measuring Cup
- Mixing Bowl and Spoon
- Container for Scrub
Mix the equal amounts of oil and sugar together in a bowl, and carefully add the five drops of Rosemary oil or other oil of your choice. Add more sugar, if desired, until you find the right sandy consistency for your feet. I added approximately 1/8 c. more sugar and loved the result. I also added 1 drop of peppermint oil.
If you do not have any essential oils on-hand, you can easily turn this into a brown sugar/vanilla scrub by adding a splash of vanilla extract and another 1/4 c. of brown sugar.
Caution: Never use peppermint oil in the bath! I learned this important tip from certified mind-body-spirit practitioner, Marci Cagen. (If you’re in the Phoenix area, check out her website, as she will teach you stuff!) When using peppermint, always dilute it in a carrier, do not make contact with mucous membranes, and use a small amount.
I loved the smell of this batch so much that I used most of it up in one day between a foot bath – and lots of hand washing after mincing garlic. This scrub completely removed the smell of garlic from my fingers, and that’s something that only lemon juice has done successfully for me in the past. You will love how smooth your skin feels after scrubbing with this simple creation!
